for children aged 8+ in Romanian and Hungarian with subtitles
A charming story about a boy who sets off on his first big journey towards independence after an ill-fated shoe purchase. Ten-year-old Filip travels to the city with his father to buy new shoes for school. When his father gets distracted by an old friend, Filip has to finish the purchase on his own. By accident, he buys two shoes for his right foot and decides to put the mistake right without adult help. Along the way, he befriends a stray dog, whom he names Mbappé after his favourite football player. His search for the missing shoe turns into an unforgettable journey, during which small challenges, new encounters and acts of courage become his first steps towards independence.
"I know that when Mihai was writing the script, he was strongly influenced by Abbas Kiarostami. In particular, by Where Is the Friend's House? [1987] which is also about a child who goes on a journey to solve a simple problem. That film was very important to us. At the same time, it is not really a children's film, but a film made for adults. We wanted to take a similar simple narrative structure - a child trying to solve something on his own - but approach it differently. Not in a conventional cinematic way." (Paul Negoescu)
