A comedy about a love triangle where personal passions collide with political rhetoric and everyday life in working-class Rome. Roman bricklayer Oreste falls in love with the young flower seller Adelaide at a political rally, but she soon becomes involved with Nello, a young Tuscan pizza maker. When Adelaide realises she cannot give up either of them, the three attempt to live together, but their unconventional ménage a trois soon falls apart. Through this love triangle, Scola creates a playful portrait of working-class Rome, where personal passions intersect with political jargon, popular culture and the social changes of the time.
