Mimi metallurgico ferito nell'onore
Mimi kovinar
Lina Wertmüller · Italy, 1972 · 121 min
A satire on Italian society told through the story of a Sicilian labourer, blending themes of political corruption, male pride and romantic entanglements. Sicilian labourer Mimi loses his job after refusing to vote for the candidate backed by the Mafia in a local election. Unemployed, he leaves for Turin, where he becomes immersed in the world of northern Italian politics while also getting romantically involved with Fiore, a communist activist. Meanwhile, back in Sicily, his wife Rosalia becomes pregnant by another man, prompting Mimi to seek revenge for his wounded honour. Lina Wertmüller turns his story into a politically charged comedy about masculinity, work and Italy's social tensions.
"It is a fierce and remarkably intelligent comedy. It deals with the significant North-South divide in the 1970s and the false myth of Italian progress, making it still remarkably relevant today. The tone of the film is light, but a certain clear-eyed pessimism runs beneath the surface." (Carlo Ceruti, FilmTV)
