A chicken escapes her grisly fate on an industrial farm to offer her chicks a better life, only to confront the depths of human cruelty. The latest daring feat from renowned Hungarian auteur György Pálfi. A determined chicken leaves behind her wretched life on an industrial farm in search of a safe place to raise her chicks. On her tumultuous journey, she lands in a Greek seaside village and is captured by the elderly proprietor of a lacklustre restaurant, who lives under the yoke of his daughter's criminal boyfriend. The adventurous hen bears witness to the darker realities of human life.
"This film can't be confined to a single genre - being an auteur gives you the freedom to play with different styles. / ... / Our core concept was to create a dual narrative: the hen's story moves towards a Hollywood-style happy ending, while the underlying human story unfolds as a tragedy, following the traditions of classical Greek drama. The two threads meet for a brief moment, and then diverge again. Because our main character is an animal, we had to plan every scene with great precision." (György Pálfi)
