What happens when a gifted teenager trades her career ambitions for life in a convent? Winner of the Goya Award - Spain's top national film prize - for Best Film. Ainara, a brilliant and idealistic young woman, stands at a crossroads in her life: she must decide which university course to pursue, or at least, that's what her family hopes. However, Ainara feels that her future might lie elsewhere. As her friends begin to explore the joys and turmoil of adolescence, she finds herself increasingly torn between following a conventional path and embracing something entirely different. Deep within her, she hears a call - an unexpected pull towards the contemplative life of the convent. But this choice will not come without disrupting the family's delicate balance.
"This subject has interested me since the beginning of my studies at university. I was around twenty years old then and I was told the story of a young girl my age who had made the decision to become a cloistered nun. Her sudden renunciation of university, of travel, of new friendships has always intrigued me. /.../ The film allowed me to overcome my own prejudices, because I am an atheist and I have always taken a critical look at the institutional side of the Church. By making this film, I came to understand that, in the intimacy of faith, certain believers experience consolation and comfort." (Alauda Ruiz de Azúa)
