An intimate story about a father and daughter, told in Dupieux's signature style, turns into a darkly humorous, surreal comedy in which family ties are tested and the boundaries between cinema and reality begin to blur. Philip Doom, a wealthy American business magnate, tries to reconnect with his daughter Madeleine during a lavish trip to Paris. But French cuisine, a 1950s horror film and an intrusive hotel employee named Lucie soon threaten to disrupt their carefully planned stay, turning it into an increasingly chaotic and utterly absurd experience.
"Pure emotion as an objective isn't my thing. What I like is fantasy, and above all, making people laugh and be entertained - but not through traditional comedy. The film is funny in other ways. I started with this father-daughter story, and then there's a second film inside the film. I see these conceptual films like amusement parks. They take us on emotional, comical and fantastical rides." (Quentin Dupieux)
