The only feature film by Bosnian director Ivica Matić brings together the defining qualities of his short films: formal innovation, humour, humanism and a vision of cinema as poetry. Winner of the Golden Arena for Best Director at the Pula Film Festival. The film follows Gozdar, a self-taught and na?ve painter with a particular passion for painting nudes. He arrives in a remote Bosnian village, where he soon persuades a number of local women to pose for him. Their husbands are outraged, convinced that something more than art is going on between the painter and his models. Karpo Godina's acclaimed cinematography, inspired by na?ve art, integrates the characters into the landscape and their surroundings, lending a poetic quality to an otherwise mundane story. With an exceptional eye for composition and atmosphere, Matić creates a cinematic essay on the conflict between the artist and society.
