for children aged 11+ in Arabic with subtitles
A touching story of eight-year-old Toha, who grows up as a housekeeper in a world that doesn't belong to her, and wants to create her own fairy tale, at least for one day. Eight-year-old Toha works as a maid for a wealthy family in contemporary Cairo, where she forms a close bond with Nelly, the family's daughter. As Nelly's birthday approaches, Toha pours all her imagination and determination into preparing the perfect celebration, unaware of the invisible boundaries that separate them. Told through a child's perspective, the film explores friendship, social inequality and growing up, revealing how fragile relationships can be in an unequal world.
"There is a coexistence of social classes in Egypt that is terrifying; a lot of things happen that we just sweep under the rug. It's a love letter to children, truth and cinematic care." (Sarah Goher)
