Urša Menart, a prominent figure in Slovenia's new wave of filmmakers, once again turns her attention to a younger generation struggling to find its place in an inhospitable world. After the emotional collapse that follows her mother's death, Maruša builds an online bond with Alja, a nurse living in a small coastal town in Germany. Bonding through humor over their shared struggles, Maruša and Alja quickly develop a friendship that is put to the test when they finally meet in person.
"I wanted to make a film about loneliness and friendship - I feel that despite being hyper-connected, we're lonelier than ever before. The so-called BFF, often glorified as the most important personal relationship to young women, is hard to find and hard to keep in the era of individuality and alienation. The contrast between feeling like a stranger everywhere, and the longing for attention, connection and deep friendships - like the ones we usually see in films featuring young women - is very interesting to me, and I tried to treat it with honesty, tenderness and humour."
