A painfully sincere story of a teenage girl who witnesses police violence in Pristina and finds support in a friend who shows her how to cope with her pent-up anger and pain. Late-1990s Pristina, Kosovo. As war looms and ethnic tensions escalate, 13-year-old Dua struggles to find her place among her peers and in her changing body. Despite the grim predictions, the family patriarch decides not to leave their home. After an incident shakes her community, Dua becomes a target herself and bonds with Maki, a fearless judoist who draws her towards an unexpected form of resistance. Amid daily violence and the growing threat of exile, there is still room for quiet awakenings.
"As I was researching for the movie, I asked a friend of mine why we were so into partying in that period, listening to music or pogo dancing - what was that about? During the war, and only half an hour away from Pristina, or sometimes even closer, people were being killed. My friend said it was a form of survival. / ... / I think it was a way of relieving the anger and pressure that was always present in our everyday lives - to somehow let it go. Otherwise, we might have exploded from everything that was happening." (Blerta Basholli)
