Ira Sachs · USA, France, 2026 · 95 min
Set in the vibrant New York of the late 1980s, the film follows Jimmy George, an AIDS-afflicted Downtown performance artist taking on what may be his final great role. During the AIDS crisis of the late 1980s, Jimmy George, a Downtown performance artist and actor, is taken incurably ill. Living with his devoted lover, Jimmy confronts the reality of his approaching death while taking on what may be the final great role of his career. As he navigates love, friendship, desire, art and mortality, he remains determined to keep creating and living intensely.
"The film is about survival and about memory. It comes from a place that is very much out of my experience, having known people and been connected to people and have been in love with people who had a terrible illness. I had a boyfriend who had AIDS, and I lived in a time in which AIDS was not just present, but it created an intense atmosphere of both dread and possibility in New York. I made a film that's a testament to creativity as a form of survival." (Ira Sachs)
