Il sorpasso
Nevarni ovinki
Dino Risi · Italy, France, 2026 · 108 min
A quintessential Italian road comedy about an unlikely friendship and a spur-of-the-moment trip from Rome to Tuscany. Roberto, a shy law student, meets Bruno, a charming and boastful forty-year-old. Cruising the empty streets of Rome in his sports car, Bruno is looking for company when, after a brief encounter over an aperitivo, he takes the young Roberto on a journey from Rome to Tuscany. En route, they meet both Roberto's and Bruno's families, and although the two travel companions seem to have nothing in common at first, an unexpected friendship gradually develops between them.
"Risi's masterpiece is built on the back of a character who is charismatic and horrifying, funny and scary, handsome and dangerous. This mix of extreme darkness with comedy was something quite new in Italian cinema, however it was this very ambiguity - taking commedia all'italiana to its limit - that seemed to appeal to the public." (Antonio Monda, The Criterion Collection)
