Dobrodošli v Hope
Na Hong-jin · South Korea, 2026 · 160 min
This South Korean sci-fi monster thriller extravaganza became a major sensation and one of the most talked-about films following its premiere at Cannes. Ko Bum-seok is the police chief of Hope Harbor, a small village near the Korean Demilitarised Zone, populated mostly by elderly residents. His second cousin, Ko Sung-ki, asks him to investigate a dead cow with gaping wounds. Sung-ki and his fellow hunters believe a stray tiger is responsible, but soon discover more dead cattle, as well as the body of the farm's owner. Returning to Hope Harbor, Bum-seok discovers that a large creature has massacred several villagers. With reinforcements tied up fighting wildfires elsewhere, he teams up with retired Colonel Ahn Nak-yeon to track it down.
"When I was a kid, I didn't really listen, and I also didn't read. However, there is a book, A Dog of Flanders, that really left a lasting impression on me. I was an elementary school student at the time, and I cried so much reading that book because all the characters in the book die by the end, and it was a tragedy that really made me think. And I think that is what tragedy does: it allows us to think. My films are filled with violence and a sense of negativity and darkness. However, the ultimate goal for showing that in the films themselves is to shine a light on some deeper good." (Na Hong-jin)
