Ester Ivakič's tender feature debut looks at the worlds children create to cope with the inevitable - and the power of imagination to become the song that breaks the silence.

Ten-year-old Ida, an imaginative but tone-deaf little girl, lives in a small village in the remote Prekmurje region with her parents and grandmother, to whom she is very attached emotionally. But when her grandmother's health unexpectedly deteriorates, Ida becomes convinced that song can ward off death. She joins the school choir in the hope that it will save her grandmother - but her voice is so off-key that she is rejected at the audition. Caught between reality and fantasy, Ida must finally grow up and embrace the change.

"Through the world of childhood loneliness, I wanted to show the space between the lightness of everyday life and the quiet presence of inevitable loss. In the face of this feeling, one can escape into imagination, play, solitude, or time with friends, looking for safety wherever possible. The film mainly takes place in these moments." (Ester Ivakič)
